Ladies
Tennis Singapore (LTS)
In October 2004, Ladies
Tennis Singapore (LTS) was formed by the LTS Committee,
a group of voluntary, multi-national, tennis playing ladies
who wanted to offer more competitive inter-team match play
to the tennis community in Singapore. The first LTS league
season was launched in February 2005.
LTS is sanctioned by the Singapore
Tennis Association (STA) and operates with their full support.
The LTS is formed as a mid-week
ladies’ doubles league - with the goal to
encourage participation in league play and to promote sportsmanship
and fun for all level of players. At all times the LTS
Committee encourages competitive tennis, good sportsmanship
and camaraderie between teams.
LTS runs two seasons throughout
the calendar year with a "Spring" season from
February to May and an "Autumn" season from
September to December.
Players are invited to form teams of
minimum six and maximum eight players. The teams are placed
in four divisions according to level of play.
Matches are played
once a week except on Public Holidays – Mondays,
Thursdays or Fridays depending on the division. On match
day, the two teams playing each other field two doubles
pairs. Each pair plays two sets against both pairs
from the opposing team. Thus, each pair plays a total of
four sets; each team plays a total of eight sets. Points
are awarded for each set won.
Matches played in the LTS league
are un-officiated matches that follow the LTS rules formulated
by the LTS Committee, International Tennis Federation rules
(ITF) and “The Code” closely. The rules can
be found on www.ladiestennissingapore.com
At the conclusion of each LTS season, awards are
given to winning teams for highest point totals over the
season and for second place in divisions with more than
5 teams. A Sportsmanship award is also
given to one team from each division. This is voted
on by the teams in each division.
The LTS league has proven to be
popular and today caters to over 290 players, with an impressive
total of thirty six teams spread over four divisions. Teams are
formed by several clubs including Singapore Swimming
Club, Singapore Island Country Club, Swiss Club, Hollandese
Club, ANZA (Australian New Zealand Association), AWA (American
Women's Association) and The British Club. Many other teams
consist of various nationalities playing at private condos
or at public courts.
The LTS Committee today is composed of: Chairwoman, Alice Young (Singapore). Alice has played high level competitive tennis for over 10 years and obtained her coaching certificate in Hong Kong in 1999. Other committee members include Leilane Anstey (Vice-Chairwoman, Events Co-ordinator & Division Representative), Linda Lim (Registrar and Division Representative), Ditte H. Mortensen (Schedules & Rules), Junko Kamakura (Committee Liaison & Rules in Japanese), Monique Bryson (Event Assistant & MC), Deanne Laner (Division Representative) and Leslie Sodano (Division Representative).
